Entires Needed for Classic & Wooden Boat Festival

The Door County Maritime Museum’s Classic & Wooden Boat Festival is making its annual call for entries for the various events associated with the festival. The festival is scheduled for Aug. 7 & 8, to be held in conjunction with the newly created Maritime on Madison event (Saturday only), previously known as Westfest.

The Door County Classic & Wooden Boat Festival annually features a remarkable assortment of vessels, which will vie for People’s Choice honors. Boats will be displayed either trailered, in-water and on the grass. Registration materials are available at the museum, 120 N. Madison Ave., Sturgeon Bay, or find registration forms online at dcmm.org/events-activities.

The Sikaflex Challenge boat building competition returns with construction on Friday evening and the race on Saturday. The field is limited to 12 two-person teams. Participants are restricted in the amount of material and tools they can use for construction. Visit the museum’s website or contact the museum at 920.743.5958 for rules and registration materials. Entry is $20 per team.

Paint the Bay returns in 2015. Area artists are invited to participate in this popular plein air painting event beginning Saturday with artists spreading out along the shores of Sturgeon Bay. Works must have a maritime theme and be completed and returned to the festival grounds by 1 pm on Aug. 8. A silent auction follows on the museum grounds with proceeds going to the artist and the museum. Entry forms to pre-register are available at the museum or online.

The museum is also looking for contributed items for the Boathouse Sale.
