Entries for the Classic & Wood Boat Festival

The Door County Maritime Museum’s Classic & Wood Boat Festival, taking place the weekend of August 7 – 8 in Sturgeon Bay, is fast approaching and registrations are being accepted for a number of festival events.

The festival annually features a remarkable assortment of vessels with judge’s awards for power, sail, and self-powered boats. Festival attendees will also vote for People’s Choice award winners on the Saturday of the show.

The Sikaflex Challenge boat building competition returns with construction on Saturday and the race on Sunday. A handful of spaces remain for two-person teams which are restricted in the amount of material and tools they can use during construction of their boat. Entry is free of charge for both boat entries and the Sikaflex event.

After a successful debut last year, “Paint the Bay” returns in 2010. Area artists are invited to participate in the open-air painting event beginning Saturday. Works must have a maritime theme and be completed and returned to the festival grounds by 1 pm. A silent auction follows from 2 – 6 pm Saturday and 10 am – 2 pm Sunday in the museum with proceeds going to the artist and the museum. Entry fee is $10.

Registration materials for all events are available at the museum, located at 120 N. Madison Avenue, Sturgeon Bay or online at http://www.dcmm.org. For more information, call 920.743.5958.
