Environmental Security is Topic of Next Distinguished Lecture at DCA

Dr. Wendy Scattergood will present the second of the St. Norbert Distinguished Lecture Series on Saturday, January 30 at 9 am at the Door Community Auditorium (DCA). The lecture is free and open to the public.

In her presentation entitled “Water, Wars, and the 21st Century Environmental Security Threats,” Dr. Scattergood will provide an overview of the issues involved in the study of Environmental Security, with an emphasis on water issues – both international and domestic – and how this will affect our security in the near-term future.

Dr. Scattergood addresses how the environment is affected by conflict, which entails examining the effects of war and terrorism on the environment, and how the environment is part of the cause of conflicts within and between countries. She will analyze the growing scarcity of natural resources and the harm to the environment as a cause of increasing conflict between peoples.

She is an assistant professor of political science at St. Norbert College, and serves as policy director the St. Norbert College Survey Center. A native of the Pacific Northwest, Dr. Scattergood received her Bachelor’s degree in Economics from Washington State University, pursuing graduate work at Purdue University, receiving her Ph.D. in Political Science in 2001. She teaches courses in American Politics, Political Economy, Policy Analysis, Public Administration and Environmental Policy.
