Ephraim Historical Foundation’s “History Speaks” Lectures

Join the Ephraim Historical Foundation (EHF) for the “History Speaks” lecture series, which takes place on Tuesdays in July at 7:30 pm. The remainder of the 2008 History Speaks schedule includes:

• Tuesday, July 15 – “Opening the Door to the Ephraim Historical Foundation Collections” presented by Sally Jacobson, Curator of the Ephraim Historical Foundation at 7:30 pm, Anderson Barn History Center.

Enjoy seeing and learning about some of the wonderful pieces in the EHF museum collections and buildings. Advertising, letters, costumes, business records, and other pieces help illustrate the history of Ephraim. Learn how the EHF’s holdings are preserved, cataloged, and handled, and the uses to which our collections are put for exhibits, publications and research.

• Tuesday, July 22 – “150 Years of Anderson Family History: A slide show” presented by Marianne Kellman at 7:30 pm, Ephraim Village Hall.

The Andersons came to Ephraim and built the Anderson Dock and Store in 1858. Two generations of the family were deeply involved in the religious, economic, and civic life of the community and operated the store until it closed nearly 100 years later. This program is in celebration of the 150-year history of the family and the legacy of the Anderson dock and store.

• Tuesday, July 29 – “The Knudson Family in Ephraim” presented by Linda Mayhew Carey at 7:30 pm, Ephraim Moravian Church.

Granddaughter Linda Carey will relate the story of Peter Knudson, who came to Ephraim as a young man to start a family and founded one of the early hotels in Ephraim, the Knudson House. Three generations of Knudsons worked at the resort, and the tale of his life and family epitomize the hardworking Scandinavian heritage that shaped Ephraim’s early years.

Admission for the History Speaks lectures is free, although donations are appreciated. For more information call 920.854.9688 or visit http://www.ephraim.org.
