A $10,000 challenge grant will enlarge the scholarship money to be raised at the Ephraim Men’s Club pancake breakfast on Aug. 4. The club’s annual breakfast raises scholarship money for Gibraltar High School graduates. It runs 7:30-11 am at the old Ephraim Village Hall. Tickets are $10 for adults and $6 for children. Diners can also win door prizes.

Club president Dick Volkmann said, “Recently, I was contacted by a donor who will underwrite a dollar-for-dollar challenge grant up to $10,000 for all contributions in excess of dues and ticket sales from now to Oct. 1.” Last year a smaller challenge grant helped boost the total of this year’s awards above $15,000 and raised the number of winners from eight to nine.

This year’s awardees and their college choices are Sofia Jauregui, Marquette or St. Norbert; Sarah Kifer, Boston University; Hanna Michalsen, St. Norbert; Anika Peterson, UW-Madison; valedictorian Mackenzie Straub, UW-Madison; Hunter Syers, UW-LaCrosse; Kaylee Weddig, UW-Madison; Kelsey Weddig, University of Minnesota; and Mercedes Zayac, Technical College, Appleton.

The club holds its annual post-breakfast party at the AC Tap on Aug. 15, 5:30-7:30 pm. Prospective club members, family and those interested in the club are welcome. The cost is $10 per person, cash bar.
