Etched in Memories

“Where Is, No 7” (detail) by Dianne Martia

Woodwalk Gallery opens its second exhibit of the season, Real and Imagined, with a reception on July 6, 4:30- 6:30 pm, featuring John Wilson on keyboard, appetizers and art from the book Suggestions of a Correspondence.

In this new exhibit, nationally known artists Dianne Martia and Tom Maakestad are featured. They will speak briefly at the reception at 5:30 pm.

Martia uses her work to try and “seduce our attention through a silent language that we all speak…Time and space intrigue me, and are often depicted in my work through imagery, surface treatment, or the layering of objects and textures.” Viewing her work is to look into the depths, peeling away layer after layer.

Maakestad paints the upper Midwest and has been recognized as one of Minnesota’s “most acclaimed artists.” He paints what he calls “realist fiction… to suggest places that appeal to [him].” The landscapes he paints are etched in his memory from long bus rides from his youth in fog, at sunset, or being able to see out the window forever.

Maakestad was recently involved in the 100th annual Minnesota State Fair Fine Arts Exhibition receiving the 1st place Foundation award. He has been selected to paint in the 2014 Peninsula School of Art Plein Air festival.

This exhibit can be seen daily 10 am – 5 pm from July 3 – Aug. 8. Woodwalk Gallery is located on County Road G, five miles south of Egg Harbor and two miles north of Carlsville, just off Highway 42 at Schartner’s Farm Market. For more information call 920.493.2912.
