Evening Hike at Crossroads at Big Creek

Colors are changing at Crossroads at Big Creek, and there’s no better time to get outdoors.

On Oct. 3 at 9 am, volunteers are invited to help contain the buckthorn at Crossroads. No experience necessary, but a sturdy pair of work gloves is helpful. Meet at the Collins Learning Center.

An evening hike will be held Oct. 6 at 7 pm. Join the naturalist for a walk through the Crossroads Preserve. Dress for the weather, but leave flashlights at home. This hike is free and open to the public. Meet at the Collins Learning Center.

Visitors are also encouraged to attend the monthly meetings of the Door Peninsula Astronomical Society this month on Oct. 7 at 7 pm. Society president Dave Udell will present the astronomy topic of the month and Tom Minahan will present “Planets with Rings.” The program will be held at Stonecipher Astronomy Center, 2200 Utah St. in Sturgeon Bay.

Crossroads is a donor-supported preserve welcoming visitors of all ages to programs in science, history and the environment. The Collins Learning Center, located at 2041 Michigan St. in Sturgeon Bay, is open 2 – 4:30 pm daily and during scheduled events. For more information visit crossroadsatbigcreek.com.
