Evening Walks and Video Astronomy at Crossroads at Big Creek

As the snow melts the woods seem to come alive with the sounds, smells, and colors of the coming spring. Two evening walks have been scheduled at Crossroads at Big Creek in Sturgeon Bay. The walks are scheduled for April 1 and April 4 at 7 pm. If hikers are lucky they might hear spring peepers and other tiny frogs. Hikers should meet at the Collins Learning Center.

On April 5 at 6 pm, Crossroads will host a town hall meeting about marijuana and underage drinking. Investigator John Gilson will discuss marijuana, short and long term effects on the body, complications from drug use during pregnancy, and underage drinking prevention. This program is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Laura Glies Wotachek at [email protected].

Also on April 5 at 7 pm, the Door Peninsula Astronomical Society will host their April meeting at the Stonecipher Astronomy Center, 2200 Utah Street. David Lenius will present the illustrated program “Introduction to Video Astronomy” and Dr. John Beck will present “The Viewing Target of the Month.” Visitors are encouraged to join the society for this free meeting.

The Collins Learning Center is open 2 – 4:30 pm daily. During construction, Crossroads can be reached from the detour by taking County T, crossing the highway and driving to Big Creek Road. Turn right and drive to Lily Bay Road. Turn right again. Lily Bay merges with Michigan Street at Crossroads. To reach the Astronomy Center, follow Utah Street (which will cross the highway during construction), or follow Memorial Drive under the bridge, turn on to 18th Place, and then turn right and go up the hill to the Cove Road intersection.
