Events at the Crossroads

Every Sunday afternoon, the Door County Historical Society hosts a special event at The Historical Village at the Crossroads in an effort to make history come alive. On Sunday, July 4 from 1:30 – 3:30 pm, Congressman Edward S. Minor (as portrayed by Joe Knaapen) will talk about “current events” such as Congress during the Teddy Roosevelt era and the construction of the Sturgeon Bay Ship Canal.

On Monday, July 5 at 11 am, the public is welcome to “A School Day in 1900.” The one-hour event will include lessons in a country crossroads school where history, science, and music were taught in one room. Participants are asked to meet at the Vignes School in The Historical Village.

On Tuesday, July 6 at 11 am, the Crossroads offers an educational program entitled “Great Lakes Fish.” The one-hour presentation, taking place at the Collins Learning Center, will review all the fish that live in Lake Michigan.

On Wednesday, July 7 at 11 am, the public is welcome to the “Warren House,” a log home built in the 1970s. During the one-hour presentation, participants will explore and learn about the summer cabin.

All the events are free and open to the public. During the summer months, the Historical Village at the Crossroads and Collins Learning Center will be open 1:30 – 3:30 pm, Sunday through Thursday. The Crossroads are located at 2041 Michigan Street, Sturgeon Bay. For more information call 920.746.5895 or visit http://www.crossroadsatbigcreek.org.
