Executive Director for Environmental Council Resigns

Jerry Viste has resigned as executive director of the Door County Environmental Council (DCEC) that he began in 1980. With an official message last week to the Board of Directors, he indicated that his service would end on Feb. 1, bringing to a close the tenure that began with plans for a coal-fired generating plant that was proposed by Wisconsin Public Service on the canal property. Their plan included the Viste
century farm as a prime location for ash disposal from the generating facility, and Viste wanted no part of that effort and, collectively with other organizations, defeated the proposal.
As a former educator, service man and farmer he saw the need to have organizations involved and began association with the DCEC, as a board member, then president and eventually as executive director.
