Exhibit Celebrates “Sturgeon Bay: Past & Present”

“Fishing on the Dock of the Bay,” oil painting, by Mary Ulm Mayhew.

The Miller Art Museum continues to celebrate its 35th Anniversary with a theme exhibit, “Sturgeon Bay: Past & Present,” a large group invitational of artists who were invited to choose and create their own way of interpreting the title. The exhibit will open Saturday, August 28 with a public opening reception from 5 – 6:30 pm. The show will continue through November 9, 2010.

The inspiration behind the theme came from local artists Mary Bosman and Aaron Holland, who thought many artists would be interested in participating. Indeed they were; 36 artists responded.

“Sturgeon Bay has every possible subject for the painter,” said Bosman, “buildings, and churches with character, orchards, farms, wildflowers, bridges, the bay, state and local parks, the lake and its beaches, sunsets, freighters and sailboats.”

The Miller Art Museum is free, fully accessible, and open Monday through Saturday, 10 am – 5 pm, (until 8 pm on Monday) and located at 107 S 4th Avenue, Sturgeon Bay. For more information call 920.756.0707 or visit http://www.millerartmuseum.org.
