Exhibit III at Fine Line Design Gallery of Door County

Painting by Pam Murphy

Two of Fine Line’s best-known artists, Pamela Murphy and Nathan Hatch, are featured in the gallery’s third exhibit of the 2011 season. Exhibit III will debut with an artist reception on July 14 from 4 – 7 pm.

Oil and encaustic painter, Murphy collects old photographs, which form the basis of her nostalgic paintings. “The people whose lives are recorded in those pictures are strangers, yet they hold a familiarity for all of us,” she said. The figures in Murphy’s paintings are presented on rich, textured surfaces, with many layers of paint to reveal the history of the canvas as well as to isolate the form of each figure.

Sculpture artist and furniture builder, Hatch’s body of work derives from memory, the passage of time and the mystery that can hide in the everyday. Growing up, Hatch was surrounded by the remnants of his family’s six-generation farmstead and the tools and machinery that remained from that past. This respect and reverence for his past, coupled with speculation and imagination, is what fuels his work.

The artwork for Exhibit III will be on display through August 8. Fine Line Design Gallery, open 10 am – 6 pm daily and 10 am – 5 pm on Sundays, is located on Highway 42 in North Ephraim. For more information call 920.854.4343 or visit http://www.finelinedesignsgallery.com.
