Sturgeon Bay Community Church celebrated the expansion of its facility at 515 N. 12th Ave. in Sturgeon Bay with a recent groundbreaking ceremony.
“This renovation project is a large undertaking for a congregation of 200,” stated Pastor Shannon Souther, “but our congregation is growing and supports these improvements.”
When completed the addition and renovation will increase the sanctuary size and seating capacity, provide a nursing/infant care room, additional classroom and office space, an electrical update, and overall makeover making the building compliant with the American Disability Act requirements. These changes will mean a dramatic improvement in the atmosphere for worship, as well as the usability and flexibility for the building they have now.
The Sturgeon Bay Community Church chose to renovate the facility for several reasons, including;
• their effort to be good stewards by maximizing the space in the building they already own;
• become more energy efficient;
• provide accessibility to individuals with mobility challenges so they can get in and out of the building with ease;
• better their continually growing children’s ministry;
• have the church facility that meets the expectations and needs of the growing community here in Door County;
• and to return as much of the cost of the renovation back to the community by working with local firms.
During the construction, the congregation is meeting at the Sturgeon Bay High School for its Sunday morning worship service at 10 am in the Auditorium.
PortSide Builders was chosen as the general contractor and Isaksen Architects LLC is assisting with state permits for this new addition and renovation.
