Expectations High for Clippers’ Track and Field

This spring’s high school track-and-field season got underway last month indoors, and expectations are high for Sturgeon Bay’s boys and girls teams, said Troy Hasenjager, who takes over from Mike LeRoy as the Clippers’ head coach.

“This is my eighth year as a track coach at Sturgeon Bay, but first as head coach, and I am very excited to see these student athletes compete,” Hasenjager said.

His list of top returning athletes includes senior Cate Anderson, who qualified for state in Division 2 the past two seasons in the girls 100-meter hurdles.

The Clipper girls, who won the Packerland Conference meet last season, also return a Division 2 sectional qualifier in the pole vault: senior Andrea Wilke.

Joining Sturgeon Bay’s girls team this year is junior Nida Zukauskaite, who competed for Gibraltar last season when she won the Packerland title in the high jump and also qualified for the Division 3 sectional in the high jump, pole vault and 300 hurdles.

Other girls for whom Hasenjager said he has high expectations include:

• Junior Julia Kurek and sophomore Julia Michalski in distance-running events.

• Junior Jade Tomberlin in the high jump and mid-distance running.

• Sophomores Cady Carlson, Tiviana Andropolis and Ella Tarkowski, as well as senior Claire Bohn, in the sprints and relays.

• Senior Madelyn Wind in the shot put and discus.

The returning sectional qualifiers on the boys team include senior Espen Walker in the high jump and junior Craven Lautenbach in the triple jump.

Other boys for whom Hasenjager said he has high expectations include:

• Junior Xavier Jandrin in the pole vault, high jump and mid-distance running.

• Junior Chase Hasenjager in the high jump, long jump and running events, such as the 4×200 and 4×400 relays.

• Sophomore Patrick Haese in the long jump and sprinting events.

• Junior Gannon Evers and sophomores Braden Evers and Seth Laughlin in both throwing events.

• Junior Kordell Anderson in the sprints, relays and long jump.

Troy Hasenjager said he also expects freshman Zone Wienke to add depth to the boys’ sprinters and long jumpers.
