Experiences and Observations

The Dickinson Poetry Series welcomes Judy Roy as its featured reader for Sept. 10 at 7 pm.

Roy, a Milwaukee native, has lived in Wisconsin for most of her life. Since her retirement from teaching French and psychology she has lived with her husband in northern Door County.

Roy’s subject matter is drawn from life experiences and observations of events and of the fascinating people in her world. She has studied at the Iowa Writers Workshop and with noted poets Marilyn Taylor, Robin Chapman and Ellen Kort. She has read her poems at the Wisconsin Book Festival, the Midsummer’s Music Festival, and with the Pro Arte Quartet in a presentation of The Seven Last Words of Christ.

Her poetry has appeared in a number of publications, including Wisconsin People and Ideas, Peninsula Pulse, The Door Voice, A Cup of Poems and a Side of Prose and Echoes Anthology. Her books include Slightly Off Q by Roy, June Nirschl and Nancy Rafal and Two Off Q, a Conversation in Poetry, by Roy and Nirschl. The latter book won the 2009 Wisconsin Library Association Award for Outstanding Achievement in Poetry.

On the second Wednesday of every month the Dickinson Poetry Series features a reading by a local or regional poet followed by an open mic and reception. The public is welcome, and admission is free. The UUF is located at 10341 Highway 42 in Ephraim. For more information visit uufdc.org or call 920.854.7559.
