Explore Plum Island

Want to spend a day on Plum Island? Join the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service and the Friends of Plum & Pilot Islands (FOPPI) on Aug. 13 for a guided, interpretive tour of the island’s natural habitat and historical maritime structures. Visitors will learn about the Green Bay Wildlife Refuge, hike Plum Island trails, climb the range lights and discover the rich maritime history of Plum and Pilot islands.

Wear good walking shoes, and take a picnic lunch, drinking water, sunscreen, bug spray and your curiosity. Cellular service is limited, but – good news – restrooms are available.

This free tour departs from Kap’s Marina in Detroit Harbor on Washington Island. Reserve your spot at plumandpilot.org/eventswork-days.html, and please contact FOPPI right away if you must cancel so that those on the waiting list can be accommodated. Visit wisferry.com to see the ferry schedule and rates.
