Some of Door County’s most remote places and iconic buildings will be the subject of two presentations by the Egg Harbor Historical Society. 

Learn about the history of Rock Island and the role that Egg Harbor’s “man of stone” – master stonemason John Buechner – played in it Aug. 16, 7 pm, at the Kress Pavilion, 7845 Church St. in Egg Harbor. Buechner worked on the Thordarson Boathouse on Rock Island, part of Chester Thordarson’s ill-fated effort to build a lasting estate there. 

On Aug. 30, 7 pm, Tim Sweet will present “Island History in Door County” at the Kress Pavilion. He has led the restoration efforts of lighthouses on Plum, Pilot and Rock Islands and will discuss those efforts and the islands’ history.
