Exploring the Hidden Realms of China
Barnsite Gallery and Linden Gallery announce a new fine art exhibit opening Labor Day weekend in both galleries.
The exhibit, consisting of over 100 enthralling oil paintings of ethnic minority life in China’s Guanzxi, Guizhou and Yunnan Provinces in 2008 will open Friday, August 29 with a reception at the Barnsite Gallery from 4 – 6 pm and a reception at the Linden Gallery on Saturday, August 30, from 4 – 6 pm.
Many of the artists will be on hand to greet patrons and will be happy to share their feelings about their experiences of being in and painting in China for three weeks.
The exhibit transports the viewer to villages to see rich cultures, the striking natural diversity of their surroundings, and the joy, hardships and rhythm of their daily life. The paintings focus on everyday activities such as harvesting and marketing vegetables, meat, rice and grain, shopping, playing instruments, dancing and weaving, done in native dress. All are set against the lush landscapes of this section of Southwestern China where the weather is forever spring.
The exhibit will include over 100 oil paintings by 23 painters from across the country and will run from August 29 to September 21, 2008. The paintings will be divided between the galleries for display and all of the works will be on a joint Web site.
