Exploring the Library: Hoopla BingePass is Here

by Laura Kayacan, Adult Services Librarian, Door County Library

What’s all the recent hoopla about at Door County Library? Many library users have discovered Hoopla Digital, a platform through which people can access e-books, audiobooks, music, movies, comics and television series. With Hoopla and your library card, you can check out five items per month with no waiting.

Hoopla now offers a “BingePass” to Great Courses, Curiosity Stream and a collection of magazines. Each of these three BingePasses allows seven days of unlimited use of those services.

The Great Courses BingePass includes many college-level courses on a large variety of subjects such as history, science, hobbies and leisure, food and wine, philosophy, literature, travel, music and more. Each course has a series of lectures taught by professors from institutions including Harvard, Princeton, the Culinary Institute of America and Wisconsin’s own UW-Madison. Some of the classes include “Optimizing Brain Fitness,” “The Mayo Clinic Diet,” “Science Fiction as Philosophy” and “The Science of Gardening.”

The Curiosity Stream BingePass provides a collection of documentaries on a variety of subjects, including science, history, technology, nature, society, lifestyles and videos of special interest to kids. I highly recommend “Particle Fever,” a documentary about six brilliant scientists involved with the launch of the CERN Large Hadron Collider.

To access BingePasses on your mobile device, just click the “More” button on the bottom right of your screen. BingePasses can also be accessed on your computer. Once you get to hoopladigital.com, click the arrow next to “Browse,” and BingePass will be in the drop-down menu.
