EYC Awards 45 Scholarships in 2013

The Ephraim Yacht Club (EYC) awarded 45 scholarships in 2013 to junior sailing students with financial need who are year-round residents of Door County. Thirty-two individual students received scholarships, with some students receiving two or even three scholarships to attend multiple lesson sessions.

“The EYC’s scholarship program nearly tripled in size last year, up from sixteen scholarships in 2012,” said EYC education committee chair Jay Lott.

The EYC plans to offer a similar scholarship program in 2014. “We anticipate we will be able to offer at least as many scholarships in 2014, if our April 2014 scholarship fundraising event is as successful as last year,” Lott said.

The EYC’s lessons include on-shore and on-the-water instruction, including nomenclature, sailing theory, safety, seamanship, boat handling and boat care.

EYC membership is open to all, and annual membership dues begin at $65. For more information visit eyc.org/lessons or contact the EYC at [email protected].
