“Facing East” Exhibit at the Linden Gallery

“Celebration” by Susan Ploughe.

The Linden Gallery in Ellison Bay is pleased to announce the opening of “Facing East,” an oil painting exhibit by artist Susan Ploughe. The work in the collection was inspired by Ploughe’s 2008 trip to the Linden Centre in China and the many people she encountered.

On Saturday, July 17 from 2 – 5 pm, the public is invited to watch Ploughe work on a painting in progress, talk to her about the painting process, and hear her stories about traveling in China. The collection captures the colorful spirit and beauty of the Miao minority people in Guizhou Province and the Bai minority people who live in the small community of Xizhou, or “Happy Town.”

“I was surrounded by incredible scenery, and all I wanted to paint were the people,” said Ploughe. “I felt like I kept recognizing people I knew, but then I realized that I was seeing universal human traits such as humor, generosity and compassion.”

Ploughe is also a landscape artist. She plans on participating in the Peninsula Art School’s Plein Air Festival taking place from July 17 – July 24.

The current exhibit of Ploughe’s work will be on display from July 17 – August 15. The Linden Gallery, open daily from 10 am – 5 pm, is located on Highway 42 and Mink River Road in Ellison Bay.
