Fairfield Art Center Announces June Events

The summer season has arrived, and the Fairfield Art Center in downtown Sturgeon Bay is preparing a variety of June events and activities. The art center will be introducing its brand-new “Find it at the Fairfield!” scavenger hunt, sponsored by the Artists Guild, on June 6 and an artists’ talk and slide-show presentation on June 12.

“Find it at the Fairfield!” is a free summer education program open to visitors of all ages. After participants find 20 specific images or items in the gallery, they may enter into a monthly drawing. Winners of the drawing will receive a ten-dollar gift certificate for art supplies at the Artists Guild in Sturgeon Bay. The scavenger hunt will run all summer. Items on the list will change as the art center’s exhibitions change. Drawings will take place on June 30, July 31, and August 30. Winners will be notified by phone.

On Thursday, June 12, the Fairfield Art Center will welcome Jacksonport-based artists Wence and Sandra Martinez for an artists’ talk and slide show presentation on the first-floor Main Gallery at 6:30 pm. The free event is being held in conjunction with the new exhibition, “Wence & Sandra Martinez: Presence,” which opened May 15.

“Presence” incorporates several pieces of new work created this past winter in Teotitlan del Valle, Wence Martinez’s home village in Oaxaca, Mexico. The exhibition features hand-dyed and hand-woven rugs by Wence Martinez as well as paintings by Sandra Martinez. The exhibition runs through Saturday, June 28.

The Fairfield Art Center is open free to the public Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday from 10 am – 5 pm, Thursday from 10 am – 8 pm, and Saturday 10 am – 4 pm. For information, call 920.746.0001, email [email protected], or visit http://www.fairfieldcenter.org.
