Fairfield Art Center to Host Midsummer Celebration

“Woods I” by Margaret Lockwood.

On Thursday, July 31, the Fairfield Art Center in historic downtown Sturgeon Bay will host a Midsummer Celebration to honor and thank its many members, donors, volunteers, and featured artists for their generous, ongoing support of the art center and its mission in the community. The Midsummer Celebration is scheduled for 6 – 8 pm in the first-floor Main Gallery, where guests will be surrounded by Margaret Lockwood’s exquisite exhibition titled “Painted Spaces.”

“We’re inviting everyone to join us for Stone’s Throw wines, signature hors d’oeuvres from Café Launch, live music and the chance to meet and visit with renowned area artists,” said Walt Freckmann, the art center’s executive director. “This special evening is our way of saying thank you to our generous friends of the Fairfield, whose support is so important to our exhibitions and programming.”

All Fairfield members, donors, volunteers and featured artists will receive two complimentary tickets to the celebration. The general public is also welcome to attend; tickets at the door will be priced at $25 each. Each ticket holder will automatically be entered in the Midsummer Celebration raffle drawing. Three winners will take home arrangements by Sturgeon Bay Florist.

Also coming up this month: Door County-based artists Anita Winkler and Kathy Stanaszek will host an opening reception for their joint exhibition, “Making Known the Unknown” in the lower-level Gallery 242 on Friday, July 11. It will be open free to the public and is scheduled for 5 – 7 pm. The exhibition will run through Friday, August 1.

In conjunction with her new exhibition, renowned painter Margaret Lockwood will conduct a slide presentation and artists’ talk in the Main Gallery at 6:30 pm on Thursday, July 24, which is also free to the public. “Margaret Lockwood: Painted Spaces” will run through Saturday, August 16.

And the “Find it at the Fairfield!” scavenger hunt, sponsored by the Artists Guild, will continue through the end of the summer. During this new, free summer educational program, visitors of all ages may explore the Fairfield’s galleries with clipboards in hand as they search for 20 images and special items in the art on display. Participants write their names and phone numbers on their scavenger lists; the staff will draw one name per month, with the winner receiving a $10 gift certificate for art supplies at the Artists Guild in Sturgeon Bay.

The winner of the June 30 raffle drawing is Elizabeth Gierhahn. The two remaining drawings will take place on July 31 and August 30, and winners will be notified by phone.

The Fairfield Art center is open free to the public from 10 am – 5 pm, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday; 10 am – 8 pm, Thursday; and 10 am – 4 pm on Saturday.
