Fairland Bluegrass Returns to The Depot

Fairland Bluegrass Band returns to The Depot Performing Arts Center on June 20 at 7:30 pm.

Band founder Dan Rass is a forty-year veteran of the music scene. Dan started playing guitar on his dad’s 1935 Dobro when he was six years old. As he grew older he made use of his ear for music by playing anything with strings in local country bands and recording sessions. After thirty-five years he decided to go back to his roots and play the bluegrass music he grew up on – only this time with his family at his side. Dan says, “Nothing gives me more pleasure than hearing my children play and sing the music I love.”

Teri spent much of her married life watching her husband Dan perform with various artists and groups until one day she decided she’d like to sing with her husband. One year her birthday present was a bass guitar – Teri took off and has never looked back.

Calyn, Dan and Teri’s middle daughter, has played the banjo for nine years. She enjoys singing harmony with her husband, Neil.

Neil, Calyn’s husband, has “that’ voice in the band. In duets, he sings the high tenor and belts those high, lonesome leads with a voice that is so coveted in bluegrass music. He is also a songwriter who has written a number of songs in the Fairland Bluegrass set list.

Hana Grace, the youngest of Rass daughters, began playing the fiddle at age seven. Hana adds her unique voice to the traditional Bluegrass harmonies.

Admission is $10 at the door. The Depot PAC is located at 341 N. 3rd Avenue in Sturgeon Bay.
