Family Centers Programs for Older Adults

The Family Centers mission is to “Strengthen and Support Families and Communities” and that includes our older adult population. The following FREE events are available for those over 50.

• The Monthly Older Adult Breakfast Social will take place at the Forestville Town Hall, 7701 County Hwy. H, Maplewood on Wednesday, March 5, 2008 from 9 – 10:30 am. This month’s speaker is registered nurse Patti Depies, whose talk is titled "Shingles – Know Your Risk." She’ll explain what people can do about this painful problem and the new vaccine that is available to minimize the risk of getting shingles which is a possibility for anyone who had chicken pox as a child. Call to reserve by Tuesday, March 4.

• The Grammas’ Mittens Group will meet at the Family Centers Office located at 9440 Hwy. 57, one mile north of Brussels on March 18 from 10 – 11 am. Join this happy band of women who knit and crochet hats, mittens, scarves, headband, sweaters, booties and toys for needy children throughout the county. Even if you can’t attend the meeting, we’re always looking for donations of yarn and hand-crafted items.

• A Wellness Workshop will take place at the YMCA Northern Door Program Center-Fish Creek on March 25, 2008 from 9:30 – 10:30 am. You do not have to be a YMCA member and no fees will be charged to attend. This month’s topic is: Door County Transportation Solutions with Pam Busch from the Door County Transportation Consortium. She will focus on Door Tran, the innovative way county service providers are working together to provide accessible transportation to Door County residents. Even if you do all you own driving, this informative hour will give you an overview of what’s available for future needs, including ways you might be a part of the solution for others
