Authorities still don’t know what caused the car that 73-year-old Julia Foote was driving to cross the centerline of Highway 42 just south of Moravia Street in Ephraim the afternoon of Aug. 23. The result was a head-on collision with a southbound vehicle.

Foote, a well-known summer resident of Ephraim who lived in Baltimore, Md., the rest of the year, was trapped in her Mercury Tracer. Once freed, she was taken to Ministry Door County Medical Center, where she was declared dead from severe internal injuries from the accident.

Arnold C. Bacigalupo, 44, of Ephraim was driving the other vehicle. His Honda Fix was severely damaged but he did not require hospitalization.

Drugs and alcohol have already been ruled out as factors as investigators search for the cause of the crash.
