A Family Getaway for All Seasons

Newport Resort in Egg Harbor works hard to make visits extra special for all of its guests. For example, when did you last receive your very own pumpkin when you checked in to a hotel? Or a pie? Or an Easter basket? These are the gifts that new arrivals receive in October, November and before Easter, respectively.

There’s also an Easter egg hunt for the children in guest families – just one of many elements of the festive spirit that abounds year round.

“The Christmas decorations are incredible,” said Denise Stillman, who manages the property with her husband, Greg. “We really get into the spirit of Egg Harbor’s famous Pumpkin Patch every Columbus Day weekend. Last year Door County was celebrating water, so we had a rowboat in our front yard, a ‘sea’ of blue pumpkins, little pumpkins painted red and white as bobbers and a ‘school’ of colorful fish created during our monthly staff meeting. Door County has a quiet season, but things aren’t quiet here. We’re open year round, and guests want every season to be fun.”

Newport is hugely popular with families, thanks in large part to indoor and outdoor pools, a jungle gym, arcade and game room, and even an indoor ball pit. For parents, those amenities mean they can steal a few hours of true relaxing while the kids play, rain or shine.

“A high percentage of our guests are families,” Stillman said, “because they know this is a great place for kids.”

Newport is walking distance to Main Street Market, a dozen restaurants, the Kress Pavilion, Peg Egan concerts, and scores of shops.

A sandy beach is less than a mile away, and the Orchards Golf Course, the Birch Creek Music Performance Center, wineries, state parks, outdoor summer theaters, antiques malls, the Plum Loco farm-animal sanctuary and the Egg Harbor Fun Park are all within a few minutes’ drive.

Something that guests are not likely to know is that every one of the 59 units is individually owned.

“This has always been condos,” Stillman said, “but it’s operated like a little country inn.”

Every unit has a full kitchen, bathrooms, separate bedrooms, a 37-inch flat-screen TV, a fireplace, and a balcony or patio. Each unit also has a sleeper sofa, so the one-bedroom units sleep four, and the two-bedroom units sleep six.

Stillman has observed the growing popularity of multigenerational travel, often for family reunions or other special occasions such as a long Thanksgiving weekend. With so many on-site and nearby options for entertainment, family members of all ages can create their own personal mix of relaxing, pursuing interests and spending time together.

Whatever their age and whatever the time of year, Newport Resort guests enjoy the peaceful and quiet atmosphere of the inn – and the many adventures that await them just down the hill.
