Final Hymn Sing of the Summer at Zion United Methodist Church, Sept. 3

Zion United Methodist Church will hold the second of its two annual hymn sings at 5 pm Sunday, Sept. 3. Begun in 1993 at the little country church that is now 142 years old, the activity features old-time hymns picked by the audience.

The Rev. Don Heeringa, a former Zion pastor, will serve as song leader, accompanied by Joan Vahey. The entire community is invited to attend. Past hymn sings have attracted as many as 146 people from 13 different religious denominations.

The free-will offering will benefit the Door County Veterans Service Council, a local nonprofit 501(c)(3) that shares information with nine other veterans’ organizations in the county and assists veterans in need by providing help with food, rent, utilities, gas cards and transportation to medical and other appointments.

Since 2002, Zion’s Hymn Sings have raised more $30,000 for agencies that benefit people in Door County. Refreshments will be served.

The Rev. Michael Morris is Zion’s pastor. The church is located at 8781 County F, between Baileys Harbor and Fish Creek.
