Fine Art and Goats

The goats have invaded Sister Bay and more are spreading the word this year about Door County Festival of Fine Arts. Door County artists expanded the herd in 2014 with 15 more plywood goats decorated and on display around the Village. Each goat has its own distinct personality, and is now hanging around with the herd of 30 decorated goats as part of the “Goats on Poles” public art and festival promotion project in downtown Sister Bay.

The 11th annual, invitational Door County Festival of Fine Arts (DCFA) is scheduled for August 9, from 10 am to 5 pm in the expanded Sister Bay Waterfront Park.

The goats on poles project is an effort by DCFA organizers to increase awareness of the DC Festival of Fine Arts, the Door County art community, and to have some fun with public art.

Each artist who participates in the annual Door County Festival of Fine Arts shows off their talent not only by selling their finished pieces of fine art at the Festival, but by demonstrating their artistic process to the public at least two scheduled times during the day.

“By demonstrating our techniques, I work to open up the doors that have been opened for me,” said Sister Bay-based artist Tom Seagard. “I invite people in, to their level of expression and understanding, so they too can understand the artistic process.”

DCFA enters into its third year of showcasing Emerging Student Artists. Artistically talented students from Door County schools are invited to become a professional artist for the day. They display and sell their artwork, and get advice from professional artists on how to make a living in art.

Also returning this year is a free entry drawing for pieces of fine artwork donated by participating DCFA artists. Anyone who attends the Festival is eligible to enter and receive a free raffle ticket.
