Fine Arts Fest at Southern Door Schools April 6

Southern Door Elementary and Middle School will host the 17th annual Fine Arts Festival on April 6, 5 – 8 pm.

The student artwork on display in the main hallways of the Elementary and Middle School is the “heart” of this celebration. The students in grades 5K – 4th grade with regular attendance in art class will have one or more artworks to be shared with their family and the community. The students in grades 5 and 6 and middle school students in art elective classes will also have artwork on exhibit.

A new “hands-on” art creation experience for visitors and families will be the assemblage of a “Plastic Cap Mural” in the cafeteria. A design inspired by the school woods and pond will begin with the attachment of thousands of plastic caps collected by the school and community. After it is finished, the cap mural will be installed near the Southern Door Nature Center on the edge of the school woods.

The Elementary and Middle School music programs add some “soul” and magical sounds to the evening as soloists and small group ensembles perform in the up-close setting of the cafeteria.

The Scholastic Book Fair will also be open during the Art Fest for families, students and visitors to buy something fun to read and help purchase books for classrooms or the Southern Door Books on the Bus program.

Visitors will also have the opportunity to buy an ice cream sundae. The Fine Arts Festival is open to the public; all are welcome to come and celebrate the arts.
