Fine Line Designs Features Jeweler Barbara Bosco

Jewelry by Barbara Bosco.

Fine Line Designs Gallery is pleased to present a jewelry trunk show featuring jeweler and photographer Barbara Bosco on Saturday, July 19 from 10 am – 6 pm. Bosco’s one-of-a-kind creations are handcrafted from the wings of “naturally expired” butterflies and set in sterling silver or 14 karat gold. Bosco will be on hand to explain the details of her work and answer questions about the process of her jewelry making.

As Bosco tells it, her fascination with butterfly wings began 10 summers ago when she found two “naturally expired” Monarch Butterflies outside her home. She brought them to her studio, where they remained on her worktable for some time. One morning, while working on her sterling silver jewelry, she decided to cut a small oval from one of the wings to try as an insert in one of the jewelry pieces. She was pleased with the results and quickly sent her family and friends on a “deceased-only” butterfly lookout.

Over time, Bosco grew more enamored of butterfly wings, seeking out breeders, butterfly farms, and conservatories all over the world that were willing to send her their naturally expired butterflies. This endeavor eventually led to Bocso’s second career in photography.

“After awhile, it became very important to me to see the butterflies alive, so I began to photograph them,” Bosco said. “I am thrilled to share the gracefulness of these creatures in a variety of mediums.”
