Fine Line Designs Gallery Hosts Plein Air Artists

The peaceful and whimsical sculpture garden of Ephraim’s Fine Line Designs Gallery will be host to many of the nation’s premier plein air painters on Tuesday, July 21 from 11 am – 2 pm. Fine Line Designs will feature demonstrations and onsite painting by artists Tom Maakestad, Lori Beringer, Kathie Wheeler, and others. The event is in conjunction with the Door County Plein Air Festival, which begins on July 20. Light hors d’oeuves and refreshments will be served.

Many of the artists who will be painting at Fine Line have been plein air painting for many years. Raised on a small farm in rural Minnesota, painter Tom Maakestad began to observe the sensual experience of the outdoors at a young age. He paints in both an abstract and realist style, and has created a visual language to express his passion for color and light.

Oil painter Lori Beringer paints with a deep respect for each day. She enjoys painting light, and “whatever the light happens to pass over in a certain moment.” She also hold a deep regard for the old, not-so-perfect buildings that she encounters through her research, saying that these buildings “possess honesty and a lyrical movement that is so beautiful to me.”

As a child, Kathie Wheeler was drawn to the work of the American Impressionists, who would take to the fields and woods with their sketchbooks and paints to record the beauty of their surroundings. “All of my paintings are scenes from my own experiences,” Wheeler says, going on to say that her farm in Southern Wisconsin is responsible for much of this inspiration.

Fine Line Designs Gallery and Sculpture Garden, located on Highway 42 in north Ephraim, is open daily from 10 am – 6 pm and on Sundays from 10 am – 5 pm. For more information call 920.854.4343 or visit http://www.finelinedesigns.com.
