Fine Line of Door County Hosts Plein Air Painters

“Summer Rain” by Kathie Wheeler.

Two of the nation’s premier plein air painters, Colin Page and Kathie Wheeler, will demonstrate painting on the grounds of Ephraim’s Fine Designs Gallery on July 18 from 11 am – 2 pm. The event is free and open to the public. Luncheon hors d’oeuvres will be served. The informal event is being held in conjunction with the Peninsula School of Art’s fifth-annual Door County Plein Air Festival.

Oil painter Page has been living in Maine for the past few years, and his focus is the landscape there. All of Page’s work is done entirely on site, and they are meant to capture an atmospheric feeling. Page was selected as the winner of the People’s Choice Award at the 2009 Door County Plein Air Festival, and also took third place for the same award in 2010.

Wheeler was raised in the Chicago area, and grew up sketching and painting alongside her father. She now resides on a small farm in Vernon County, Wisconsin – a farm that is the major source of inspiration for her work. Wheeler was the winner of the Dockside Quick Paint Competition at the 2008 Door County Plein Air Festival.

The gallery will donate a portion of the proceeds of any Page or Wheeler painting purchased during the Door County Plein Air Festival to the Peninsula School of Art. For more information on the Door County Plein Air Festival visit http://www.doorcountypleinair.com.
