Fire and Ice Winners

Fire and Ice weekend was held Feb. 15 & 16 in Sturgeon Bay. With the new snow that had fallen on Feb. 13, there was plenty of snow and ice to work with to create sculptures.

The winners of the ice carvings were:

• Advanced: First – Dave Mailand, skating penguin and sponsor Brick Alley; Second – Walt Ash, hand holding paint brush and sponsor Artisit Guild; and Third – Dave Bartels, bear and sponsor Gwendolyn’s.

• Intermediate: First – Tracy Robinson & Tricia Gohr, Angel Fish and sponsor Door County Eye Associates; Second – Kristen Kalsen, child’s blocks, sponsor Child’s Play; and Third – Cody Leist, lighthouse and sponsor Monticello.

• Beginners: First – Elana Prior, apple and sponsor Dancing Bear; and Second – Kate Warachek & Jacki Simon, mask and sponsor Hot Tamales.

• Youth: First – Kate Woracheck & Jacki Simon, mask and sponsor Hot Tamales.

• People’s Choice: Max Martin, a woodpecker and sponsor Associated Bank.

The Sturgeon Bay Visitor Center thanks all of the ice and snow carvers, sponsors and spectators for making the 2014 Fire & Ice a great success.
