Fire Chief Named for New Nasewaupee Fire Rescue

Jacob Schartner has been selected to lead the new Nasewaupee Fire Rescue when the town’s split from the Southern Door Fire Department (SDFD) is completed Oct. 1.

Schartner was selected during a special Nasewaupee Town Board meeting March 8, when the board also approved an ordinance to create the new department’s standard operating guidelines.

Town chair Steve Sullivan said Schartner is currently a member of the SDFD. That department’s chief, Rich Olson, does not reside in Nasewaupee and will remain with the SDFD.

Given the amount of interest in being part of the new department, Sullivan said he expects the number of firefighters and emergency medical responders assigned to the Nasewaupee station to increase by one-third to about 32.

Last September, Nasewaupee gave official notice to the other three municipalities in the SDFD – the Village of Forestville and the Towns of Forestville and Clay Banks – of its intent to leave and form its own department.
