Firefly Outfitters, 10589 S. Highland Road in Sister Bay, has become an authorized Harvest Right Freeze Dryer dealer. These appliances – available in both commercial and home-use sizes – allow users to preserve many foods for shelf-stable storage while retaining most of the nutrients. 

A medium-sized home-use dryer is about the size of an under-counter refrigerator and comes with a supply of food-storage bags, oxygen absorber packets and an impulse sealer. Through the process of sublimation, water content in the food passes from a frozen state to a gaseous state without passing through the liquid state, so foods retain their original shape and color better than conventional dehydration.
