First Hardy Gallery Art Studio Tour Gives Inside Look

Rob Williams

The historic Hardy Gallery is pleased to announce the first of four Art Studio Tours, which is set for Friday, August 28 at 4 pm. The tours will take patrons to the private studios of three distinctly different Door County artists – Patty Degenhardt, Rob Williams and Robert Bentley.

Degenhardt is a skilled artist in a variety of mediums such as sculpture, clay, and painting. Her sculptural work tends to deal with what she calls “the impact of the woman on the evolution of a society.” Degenhardt says that her two-dimensional work is less straightforward and is an attempt to capture what is compelling to her. Her studio is located on Gibraltar Road in Fish Creek.

Rob Williams combines plein air painting with photography, and uses these two mediums as the springboards for his work. He says that he enjoys landscape painting because it “allows the freedom to transform nature into dramatic areas of space and color.” His paintings are a visual interpretation of things he has experienced – designed for impact and painted in a free, personal style. Williams’s studio is located on Isle View Road in Ellison Bay.

The familiar signature of Robert (R.D.) Bentley has been seen through the United States on hundreds of public portraits of congressmen and businessmen, and on the private paintings created for individuals and families. Raised in Evanston, Illinois, Bentley spent his summer months in the water, cedar woods, and cherry orchards Ephraim and Sister Bay. After several decades away from Door County, Bentley returned and settled in Ellison Bay with his wife, Barbara and began to paint the landscapes he knew as a youth. Bentley’s studio is located on Elm Road in Ellison Bay.
