First Pottery Tour of the Season

The Door County Potters Guild will hold its annual tour and open house on May 2 and 3, 10 am – 5 pm. Visit each of the seven member potteries as they exhibit their take on the cup – the featured form for the 2015 tour.

The self-guided tour offers visitors a unique opportunity to meet the potters and get a behind-the-scenes look at their studios and the process of pottery making. The galleries will also display the latest creations of both functional and decorative pottery for the upcoming season. Watch demonstrations and enjoy refreshments while touring the potteries.

The following potteries are a part of the tour:

Ellison Bay

• Ellison Bay Pottery/ John Dietrich and Diane McNeil – demonstrations of Japanese tea bowls thrown off the hump.

• Gills Rock Stoneware/ Judy and Thor Thoreson – cups of all description, and an array of functional and decorative pottery both wheel-thrown and hand-built in all sizes and shapes.

• Clay Bay Pottery/ Jeanne and David Aurelius – lamps, ladies, large platters are among the wide variety of functional and decorative pieces.

Ephraim

• Ephraim Clayworks/ Tracey and Brian Fitzgerald – a wide selection of functional and decorative pottery.

Fish Creek

• TR Pottery/ Renee and Tony Gebauer – a varied selection of functional pottery in traditional forms.

Egg Harbor

• Off the Wheel Pottery/ Renee Schwaller – cup throwing demonstrations and a cup drawing will be featured.

• Plum Bottom Pottery/ Chad Luberger – new work in porcelain will be featured.
