First Win of Season for Destroyers

The Door County Destroyers football team had their hands full this past Saturday but came out on top by a score of 24-16. The Destroyers led at halftime 12-10 thanks to a couple defensive scores. The Rock County Rage came out in the third quarter and took the lead 16-12, but the Destroyers responded on the next drive and reclaimed the lead 18-16. A late score to extend the lead and a forced turnover from the defense sealed the deal as the Destroyers improved to 1-2 on the season. With the loss, the Rock County Rage fall to 0-2.

Standout performers:  TaMar Scott had 11 carries for 81 yards and 2 touchdowns; Junior Blucher added 60 yards on 9 carries; Bryan Beachler led the defense with 9 total tackles, 4 for loss and 0.5 sack; Juan Heredia and Mason Czekala combined for 7 total tackles, 3 for loss, 2.5 sacks and 1 pass deflection; and Steve Strong sealed the victory with an interception.

The Destroyers return to the Baileys Harbor Rec Park June 30 to take on the Racine Raiders at 4 pm. For more information find the Door County Destroyers on Facebook.
