Fish Creek Artists Open Studios for Gallery Tour

On July 25 and 26 from 11 am to 5 pm, the public is invited to an open studio gallery event throughout Fish Creek. Four Door County women artists will open their studios/galleries to visitors to see new works, works in progress and demonstrations.

The participating studio galleries include The Patty Degenhardt Gallery, The Ekholm Gallery, The Kathy Glasnap Gallery and Maple Grove Gallery.

• Maple Grove Gallery, located at 9098 County Road F, features the designs of weaver Gloria Hardiman.

For the past 40 years, Hardiman has created luxurious handwoven items. Visitors can gather around the loom to watch her weave the colorful fabrics.
Hardiman’s emphasis is on wearable art.

• The Kathy Glasnap Gallery, located at 8873 County Road A, offers watercolors, acrylics, Giclee prints and cards.

Glasnap’s nostalgic view of rural America is rendered with charm and sensitivity in watercolors that combine traditional form with an impressionistic style.

• The Patty Degenhardt Studio, located at 3791 Gibraltar Road, features sculpture, ceramics and paintings.

Degenhardt’s contemporary work encompasses the mediums of bronze sculpture, mixed media painting and ceramics. Themes of connectedness, home, family and nature come to mind, as many of her bronze sculptures deal with the impact of women on society and the universal role of the mother as teacher and promoter of the search for peace through non-violence.

• Judi Ekholm features large and small-scale oil paintings, ceramic and marble tiles and outdoor installation murals in her gallery, located at 3913 Little Spring Road.

Ekholm’s paintings have their roots in impression. Her deceptively simple images of landscapes and flowers often require up to 30 layers of oil paint. The bold use of color and pattern in her images stems from a romantic sensibility informed by technical expertise.
