Five DCY Swimmers Qualify for Nationals

With another outstanding state meet completed this past weekend, the Door County YMCA (DCY) Swim team tied their best finish in team history at the Wisconsin YMCA State Championships, held at the Walter Schroeder Aquatic Center in Brown Deer.

Qualifying the most swimmers in team history with 52, the team had a spectacular meet in all age groups throughout the weekend. The DCY Swim team placed fourth as a team with 1,996 points, with 23 teams attending.

The following were state championships claimed by the DCY Swim Team: Jack Monfils (8-under boys) – 100 free, 1:12.34; Macoy Neinas (15-18 boys) – 100 back, 52.14, 200 back, 1:55.29; Max McHugh (15-18 boys) – 100 breaststroke, 52.46, 200 breaststroke, 1:59.48, 50 free, 20.80, 100 free, 45.49. McHugh’s 100-breaststroke time is faster than the national public high school record and faster than his National YMCA record set last year.

The open relays with Max McHugh, Macoy Neinas, Jared Klika, and Brock Aune also set new state records in the 200 free relay record with a 1:25.26, and the 200-medley record with a 1:33.48. They also won the 400-medley relay with a 3:27.99.

The team also had 18 second place finishes and 11 third place finishes.

Swimmers Macoy Neinas, Brock Aune, Jared Klika, Max McHugh and Katie Kaminski qualified for the YMCA National Competition in Greensboro, North Carolina beginning April 3.
