Five Objects Inspire Multiple Paintings

June 7, the Peninsula School of Art in Fish Creek hosted a Gallery Talk with five artists showing in their current exhibit: “Five Objects of Inspiration.”

The artworks in this exhibition are the result of an experiment/challenge given to 22 painters from around the country. Each artist received five identical items: a paper fan, blue Ball Mason jar, wooden flute, clear glass bottle with a cork, and a half yard of fabric and were asked to create a still life painting from those objects. The only rule – they could add objects, but not subtract any. The final paintings are as unique as the artists who painted them.

After the gallery talk with artists Mark Zelten, Mary Ulm Mayhew, Franne Dickinson, Marjorie Mau and Lisa Stauffer, all visitors were invited to choose from one of five still life set-ups to create their own works. Among those who were inspired to work in the gallery were Marcia B. Welcome, Carol Sills, and Barbara Weir.

“Five Objects of Inspiration” is on display at Peninsula School of Art, located at 3900 County Road F in Fish Creek, until July 12. For more information call 920.868.3455 or visit peninsulaschoolofart.org.
