Flare Shoot and Paddling Seminar

The Door County Sail & Power Squadron (DCS&PS) has scheduled a flare shoot Saturday, June 12 at 2 pm at the Sturgeon Bay Yacht Club.

The Coast Guard will clear airspace for area boaters to dispose of expired flares in a supervised environment. In addition, the Fire Department will set controlled fires on the Yacht Club grounds to educate attendees about proper fire extinguisher handling.

This civic-service event is open to the public and will be postponed if weather conditions are unfavorable. The Yacht Club, located at 600 Nautical Drive, will be open for attendees to purchase beverages.

On Monday, June 14, DCS&PS is offering a free two-hour Paddle Smart seminar conducted by Squadron Commander Bob DeNoto, JN, of Sturgeon Bay. The seminar will present useful information for those interested in kayaking, canoeing, and rowing, as well as those considering purchasing paddling equipment. The class will begin at 6:30 pm at Northeast Wisconsin Technical College, Room 147 (north entrance), 229 North 14th Avenue, Sturgeon Bay.
