Flower Bulbs Available from Door County Visitor Bureau

The Door County Visitor Bureau’s (DCVB) annual shipment of flower bulbs has arrived. Anyone who ordered bulbs from the DCVB earlier this summer can now pick up their orders at the Door County Welcome Center, 1015 Green Bay Road (Highway 42/57) in Sturgeon Bay between 8 am – 6 pm weekdays and 10 am – 6 pm weekends. Bulbs should be picked up by late October so that they may be planted before the ground freezes.

A limited number of bulbs may still be available for purchase for those who did not place an order for bulbs earlier this summer. Anyone interested should call the DCVB at 920.743.4456.

Each June a limited selection of premium spring flowering bulbs are offered for sale through the DCVB as a means to continue the momentum of the Festival of Blossoms planting initiative that started 18 years ago. The beautification by bulbs effort was designed to help add to the county’s existing springtime cherry, apple and wildflower blossoms with the intention of boosting early season tourism business. The immediate success of the program helped lay the groundwork for the creation of the “Door County USA” daffodil, a hybrid double daffodil that was christened in 2003 and is available to purchase through the DCVB’s annual bulb sale.

The 19th annual Door County Festival of Blossoms is scheduled to take place in May of 2012.
