Flower Demos at Gwendolyn’s Jewelry & Gallery

“Dandelions for Dessert” by Madonna Siles.

Gwendolyn’s Jewelry & Gallery is celebrating the merriness of May with art demonstrations by two of the gallery artists, Linda Thompson and Madonna Siles, on May 16 from noon to 4 pm, at 44 N. 3rd Ave., Sturgeon Bay. Both artists will focus on flowers as the creative subjects of their demos. This event is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served.

Linda Thompson creates unique note cards and artworks that illustrate the beauty of garden flora. Her “Florescence” pressed flower creations incorporate the delicate colors and intricate patterns on leaves and blossoms one might find in a Door County garden. A retired instructor, Linda taught English and journalism at Sevastopol High School for more than 30 years. She has been experimenting with floral design for many years.

Siles will demonstrate her expressionistic technique for painting springtime wildflowers such as trillium, violets or her personal favorite: sunny dandelions. She uses colorful oil pastels to capture the dazzling light and energy of Door County. Though she usually paints plein air, Siles will use a photo to create her painting at Gwendolyn’s. She is a member of the Water’s Edge Artists (plein air painters for preservation of historic or endangered sites.).

To add to the festivities, Gwendolyn’s will feature special price savings of 20 percent off earrings, necklaces and bracelets by Sandy Baker, Holly Yashi and Firefly. Gwendolyn’s is open every day from 10 am to 5 pm.
