• From history writings on Ellison Bay and Liberty Grove, John Ellison married Caroline Top. They built a combination house and general store next to their pier. Ellison became postmaster in 1867 and the store also became the post office. They donated two acres of land to the Scandinavian Lutheran Church in 1885. Shortly after that Caroline gave lumber to build the German Lutheran Church. It was located part way up the Ellison Bay hill.
