For the Love of Food

It’s been said that food is love. If that’s the case, Door County restaurants are serving up plenty of love this weekend through Valentine’s Day-inspired specials, from dinner to dessert to wines.

DINNER

The Fireside Restaurant
7755 Hwy 42 in Egg Harbor

Celebrate with your sweetie a couple of days early, on Feb. 12, with The Fireside Restaurant’s Valentine’s special: a five-course meal with wine pairings from around the world. Call 920.868.4800 to reserve your table for one of the two available seating times: 5:30 pm or 8 pm.

Chop
2345 Mill Road in Sister Bay

All you need is love … and lobster. Chop’s Valentine’s-themed special, available Feb. 14 only, is a match made in culinary heaven: a three-course surf-and-turf meal served in addition to its regular menu.

Alexander’s
3667 Hwy 42 in Fish Creek

Alexander’s four-course Sweetheart Menu features your choice of pre-selected menu items and wine. Can’t get out on Valentine’s Day? Not to worry – the special menu is available through the end of February.

WINE

Parallel 44 / Door 44 Vineyard & Wineries
N2185 Sleepy Hollow Road in Kewaunee / 5464 Cty P in Sturgeon Bay

What do you get when you pair a winter walk with wine and chocolate? Parallel 44’s Sweetheart Vineyard Walks with winemaker Steve. This event – held Feb. 12 and Feb. 19 – includes a guided vineyard tour, stops along the way to sample five wines, plus a chocolate and wine-pairing flight in the tasting room to cap it off and a coupon to use on your favorite wine that day. Reservations and prepayment are required.

Too cold to head outdoors? The Sweetheart Wine Pairing is available at both Parallel 44 and Door 44 through March 3. Enjoy four sweet treats paired with perfectly matched wines. Learn more at 44wineries.com or by phone at 920.388.4400.

Door Peninsula Winery
5806 Hwy 42 in Carlsville

Staying in this year? Door Peninsula Winery has you covered with its Valentine’s Day virtual wine-tasting kit.

Join head winemaker Allan Hyland on Wednesday, Feb. 16, 6 pm, for a virtual wine tasting on Zoom and Facebook Live that you can follow at home. (If you can’t make it live, watch later on demand.) Order your kit at store.dcwine.com/winery; then follow along through five wines, complete with notes about each and the stories behind them.
Each kit contains one bottle each of Cherry Berry Twist, Chaos White, Merlot, White Zinfandel and Blackberry, plus a half pound of the winery’s fudge in your choice of three flavors.

DESSERT

DC Chocolate Design Cafe
341 Spring Road (Top of the Hill Shops) in Fish Creek

Woo your sweet tooth – and your valentine – with a box of luscious, handmade, small-batch truffles and chocolates from DC Chocolate Design Cafe. With an assortment of decadent and distinctive truffle flavors to choose from – including Milk Chocolate Hatch Distillery Bourbon Ganache, Dark Chocolate Winter Ginger-All-the-Way Cream, Milk Chocolate Peanut Butter Cream and more – this is far from your ordinary box of chocolates.

In addition to truffles, owner and chocolatier Kara Vanderleest has created a full lineup of Valentine-themed solid-chocolate hearts, caramel-filled hearts and heart-shaped chocolate nut clusters. DC Chocolate Design Cafe’s hot-chocolate spoons – its spin on hot-cocoa bombs – are also back with a Valentine’s Day twist.

Stop in the cafe Thursday – Saturday, 8 am – 4 pm, and Sunday, 8 am – 12:30 pm, or order at dcchocolatedesign.com.

Uncle Tom’s Candy Store
703 Europe Bay Road in Ellison Bay

Rebecca Whipple and Ryan Mueller, the new owners of Uncle Tom’s Candy Store, have created a new February flavor just in time for Valentine’s Day. Their new strawberries & cream bark is available in the store and at Piggly Wiggly in Sister Bay.
Also available is a Valentine’s-themed gift bag filled with a half pound of peanut brittle and a half pound of dark cherry bark. Treat your sweetie or your own sweet tooth Monday – Thursday, 11 am – 3 pm; and Saturday and Sunday, 10 am – 4 pm.

On Saturday, Feb. 12, the store will be open until 8 pm to offer hot cocoa and apple cider following Newport State Park’s candlelight-ski event.
