For Unyielding Explorers

Garlic mustard and phragmites are old news, but what about some of the early detection invasive species that occur in very small patches in Door County? “The Importance of Early Detection”
workshop, held May 2 from 3 to 4:30 pm at the Baileys Harbor Town Hall, will focus on imminent invaders and the technology to fight them. Prevention and eradication of satellite populations are the easiest to control and the least costly.

Join The Ridges Sanctuary and the DCIST as they host Anthony Summers, weed scientist with the University of Wisconsin Extension, and learn to identify early detection invasive plants. Summers will give a hands-on workshop demonstrating the latest online resources, such as the Great Lakes Early Detection Network (GLEDN), and provide instruction on techno-tools like mapping invasive species establishment using your smartphone.

This workshop is for the unyielding hikers and explorers, natural area stewards and volunteer botanists. Advanced registration is not required for the workshop (just drop in).

On the morning of April 18, the DCIST & Door County Land Trust will work at properties along Bay Shore Drive in the Township of Egg Harbor to control garlic mustard. For more information, contact Kari Hagenow at 920.743.8695 ext. 306 or [email protected].
