Forest Exploration Hike with Lee Frelich

Internationally known forest ecologist Lee Frelich will lead a forest exploration hike at Newport State Park for the Climate Change Coalition of Door County on July 27.

Before he was a globally known scientist, Frelich was a boy spending summers in rural Ellison Bay, passing his days in endless exploration of the woods that would become Newport Park. He thus brings to this guided hike both scientific expertise and an intimate knowledge of this exceptional Door County landscape.

The hike is a fundraiser for the Climate Change Coalition. It begins at 10 am at Europe Bay Town Park and is limited to 20 participants. The cost is $50 per person, which includes a picnic lunch.

Advance registration is required; registration is open July 7-23. To register, call Dick or Mary Smythe at 920.854.3330 or 920.421.0069.

Frelich will lead a second Newport hike for the Climate Change Coalition, also a fundraiser, Saturday, Aug. 18.

The Climate Change Coalition of Door County is a non-partisan organization that through education, outreach and civil dialogue increases public understanding of climate change and its many detrimental impacts at home and around the world. For more information visit climatechangedoorcounty.com.
