Internationally known forest ecologist Lee Frelich will lead a forest exploration hike at Newport State Park for the Climate Change Coalition of Door County on Aug. 18.
Before he was a globally known scientist, Frelich was a boy spending summers in rural Ellison Bay, passing his days in endless exploration of the woods that would become Newport Park. He thus brings to this guided hike both scientific expertise and an intimate knowledge of this exceptional Door County landscape.
The hike is a fundraiser for the Climate Change Coalition. It begins at 10 am at Europe Bay Town Park and is limited to 20 participants. Cost is $50 per person, which includes an end-of-the-hike picnic lunch. Europe Bay Town Park is located at the eastern end of Europe Bay Road.
Advance registration is required; call Dick or Mary Smythe at 920.854.3330 or 920.421.0069. For more information about the Climate Change Coalition visit climatechangedoorcounty.com.
